USH Community Service Program: Processing Local Food into Nutritious Complementary Foods (MP-ASI) to Prevent Stunting

Sukoharjo, July 10, 2024 – The Nutrition Study Program, Faculty of Food and Health Sciences at Universitas Sugeng Hartono (USH), in collaboration with Posyandu Melati 2 Karanglo RT 02 RW 08, Madegondo, Grogol, Sukoharjo, held a Community Service (PkM) activity themed “Processing Local Food into Nutritious Complementary Foods (MP-ASI) to Prevent Stunting.” The event took place at Banaran Village Hall, Karanglo, and was attended by mothers and members of Posyandu Melati 2.

The program aimed to improve mothers’ knowledge and skills in processing locally sourced food ingredients into healthy and nutritious MP-ASI (Complementary Foods for Breastfed Babies). This initiative is expected to help prevent stunting in children—an ongoing public health challenge in Indonesia.

The activity began at 9:00 AM with an educational session led by lecturers and students of the Nutrition Study Program. Topics covered included the importance of MP-ASI in stunting prevention and practical methods for processing local ingredients into nutritious meals. Participants also received informative leaflets containing easy-to-follow guidelines.

Following the presentation, an interactive discussion and Q&A session took place. The mothers actively asked questions related to food processing and its application in daily life. The speakers provided clear and detailed answers to ensure participants could implement what they had learned effectively.

As part of the session, USH nutrition students provided a demonstration of a nutritious MP-ASI snack made from moringa leaves. Moringa was chosen for its high nutritional value and availability in the local area. The snack was well-received by participants, who found the hands-on example very helpful.

The event concluded with key takeaways from the speakers and the distribution of souvenirs to participants. Support from Universitas Sugeng Hartono and the active engagement of the community contributed to the success and impact of this program.
