Sukoharjo, August 8, 2024 — Continuing its streak of international achievements, students from Universitas Sugeng Hartono (USH) proudly represented Indonesia in “The 4th Online Workshop on SDGs,” organized by Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan. Held on August 7–8, 2024, the workshop brought together students from various countries, including Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Highlighting diverse student participation, the Universitas Sugeng Hartono (USH) delegation consisted of six students from various academic disciplines. This cross-disciplinary collaboration in SDGs included Kevin Dwi Kumara Siri Manggalo and Marco Valentino Sugiarto from the Digital Business Department; Brieva Ommr and Muhammad Luqman Al-Hakim from the Computer Science Department; and Bella Putri Nuradilla and Friska Oktaviani representing the Nutrition Department.

Emphasizing local wisdom in global sustainability efforts, the USH team presented the theme “Revitalizing Traditional Heritage: The Role of Jamu in Biodiversity and Health Solutions.” They chose this topic for its strong relevance to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Sustainable Agriculture (SDGs 2 & 12), Cultural Preservation and Education (SDGs 4 & 11), and Economic Growth and Employment (SDG 8).

Moreover, the students highlighted that Jamu, a traditional Indonesian herbal remedy, represents a cultural treasure of Sukoharjo Regency, known as the “City of Jamu” and the pioneer of Jamu Gendong in Indonesia.

During their presentation, the USH team actively explained the history of Jamu, its close connection to biodiversity, the various medicinal plants used in Jamu production, and a selection of popular Jamu types. They also discussed how Jamu contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Furthermore, the team emphasized the importance of revitalizing Jamu through innovation, youth engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and educational initiatives. Their insights highlighted Jamu’s potential as a sustainable health solution rooted in Indonesia’s cultural heritage.
