Sukoharjo, August 8, 2024 – Students from Universitas Sugeng Hartono (USH) have once again made their mark on the international stage by participating in the 4th Online Workshop on SDGs organized by Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan. Held on August 7–8, 2024, the workshop brought together university students from various countries, including Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia, to discuss sustainable solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

A Diverse Team Representing USH

Highlighting Indonesia’s Herbal Wisdom Through “Jamu”

The USH team presented a compelling theme titled:
“Revitalizing Traditional Heritage: The Role of Jamu in Biodiversity and Health Solutions.”

They selected this theme due to its strong alignment with several key SDGs:

  • Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)
  • Sustainable Agriculture (SDGs 2 & 12)
  • Cultural Preservation and Education (SDGs 4 & 11)
  • Economic Growth and Employment (SDG 8)

Moreover, Jamu, a traditional Indonesian herbal medicine, is a cultural hallmark of Sukoharjo, famously known as the City of Jamu and home to the pioneers of Jamu Gendong.

During their presentation, the students explored the history of Jamu, its connection to biodiversity, various herbal plants used in its formulation, and popular Jamu types. They also discussed how Jamu can contribute to achieving the SDGs through innovation, youth involvement, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and educational initiatives.
