Sukoharjo, January 18, 2024 — Universitas Sugeng Hartono demonstrated its strong commitment to democracy and civic engagement by inviting the General Election Commission (KPU) of Sukoharjo to campus. The event, held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the Auditorium of Universitas Sugeng Hartono, marked a historic moment, as the university became the first and only campus in the Solo Raya region to host a voter education session by the KPU—specifically targeting students as first-time voters.

KPU Sukoharjo’s presence highlighted three core values that Universitas Sugeng Hartono sought to promote through this initiative. First, it reflected the university’s commitment to contributing positively to the democratic process. By providing a platform for the KPU to directly engage with students, the university aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the importance of participating in elections.

Second, the event reinforced Universitas Sugeng Hartono’s dedication to the anti-abstention movement. By involving students from various programs—such as Nutrition, Computer Science, and Digital Business—the university sought to foster a shared awareness of voting as a vital form of civic responsibility.

Mr. Murwedhy Tanomo, S.Pd., from the KPU Sukoharjo’s Division of Voter Education, Public Participation, and Human Resources, served as the keynote speaker. He provided essential insights into the election process, voters’ rights and responsibilities, and the critical role of young people in driving democratic growth.

By organizing this event, Universitas Sugeng Hartono hopes to inspire other campuses to take a more active role in boosting voter participation, especially among students. Ultimately, the goal is to shape students into agents of change who contribute meaningfully to the advancement of democracy in Indonesia.
