Innovation of Presto Nile Tilapia Product in Mulur Village: Economic Empowerment through PKK Women’s Training

🔍 Local Potential in Mulur Village’s Fisheries Sector

Mulur Village, Sukoharjo has great potential in the fisheries sector, particularly in the cultivation of Nile tilapia. However, the post-harvest processing remains underutilized, especially in terms of value-added products that can increase market value.

To address this challenge, a community service program was carried out with the theme:

“Optimizing the Potential of Nile Tilapia as a Flagship Product of Mulur Village through Presto Nile Tilapia Processing Training for PKK Women.”

This initiative was led by Windy Rizkaprilisa, S.T., M.Sc, a lecturer from the Food Technology Study Program, in collaboration with lecturers from the Accounting Study Program at Universitas Veteran Bina Nusantara.

👩‍🍳 Empowering Women through Value-Added Processing

The training was attended by 40 members of the PKK Women’s Group in Mulur Village, aiming to enhance their skills in transforming Nile tilapia into high-value processed products — specifically, “Mulur” Presto Nile Tilapia.

The program began with:

  • Socialization on the potential of Nile tilapia as a local commodity
  • Insights into opportunities for developing processed fish products
  • Emphasis on the importance of innovation for household income growth

🔧 Appropriate Technology: Presto as a Smart Solution

Participants were introduced to presto cooking tools and appropriate technologies that help process Nile tilapia into a product that is tender, long-lasting, and marketable.

During the hands-on session, participants learned:

  • How to select high-quality raw materials
  • How to blend traditional seasonings
  • How to effectively use the presto cooking tool

The resulting product, “Mulur” Presto Tilapia, stood out in taste, texture, and shelf life, making it a promising product for broader markets.

📈 Business Training: From Production to Marketing

The training didn’t stop at production. It also equipped participants with marketing and business management skills, including:
