USH Business Law Program Hosts “Law in a Day” Criminal Law Education Event!

Sukoharjo, June 20, 2025 — The Business Law Study Program under the Faculty of Technology, Law, and Business at Universitas Sugeng Hartono successfully held an educational and community service event titled “Law In a Day,” carrying the theme “Formulating Criminal Law Approaches to Address Bribery Offenses as an Effort to Restore the Integrity of the Judicial Institution.”

This hybrid event welcomed students from SMA Negeri 1 Mojolaban and SMA PL St. Yosef Surakarta as on-site participants at the USH campus, along with a wider audience from various backgrounds joining online via Zoom. The program integrated legal education, university exposure, and the practical application of the Criminal Law course through a project-based learning format.

Speakers from Both Legal Professionals and Academics

Three keynote speakers from both legal practitioners and academic backgrounds shared insightful perspectives during the seminar session. They included:

  • Ms. Meniek Emelinna Latuputty, S.H., M.H., Judge at the District Court of Sumedang, who delivered a presentation titled “Judicial Perspectives on the Enforcement of Anti-Bribery Criminal Law and Its Challenges in Court.”
  • Mr. Subandi, S.H., M.H., Advocate and Chairperson of the Al-Islam Karanganyar Education Foundation, who presented on “The Role of Advocates in Upholding Professional Ethics and Judicial Integrity.”
  • Mr. M. Rifzal A.R., legal academic, who opened the session with a discussion on “The Construction of Criminal Law in Combating Bribery: Theory, Regulation, and Reality.”

The event was officially opened by the Rector, Assoc. Prof. Jacob F. N. Dethan, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., and the Head of the Business Law Study Program, Ms. Veronica Kinanthi Sihutami, S.H., M.H., both of whom reaffirmed the university’s commitment to building a culture of integrity and justice through a holistic, educational approach to legal awareness.

“Law In a Day” served not only as a legal dialogue forum, but also as an interactive legal literacy platform that fostered integrity awareness among high school and university students. Through this activity, students experienced what it feels like to be a law student for a day—engaging in discussions, simulations, and academic interactions with expert speakers.

This program is part of the tridharma perguruan tinggi (three pillars of higher education), particularly in the areas of community service and innovative, issue-based legal education. At the end of the event, all participants received an electronic certificate, with the option to request a printed version if desired.

This initiative is expected to become an annual program and a tangible contribution from Universitas Sugeng Hartono in shaping a generation that is legally aware and committed to integrity.
